York offers competitive funding to all qualified graduate students and is committed to promoting excellence in research and teaching. Funding opportunities are provided through fellowships, research assistantships in the student’s field of study, teaching assistantships with relevant undergraduate programs, graduate assistantships with faculty members or research units, and/or scholarships and awards:

The John A. Price & Joan Rayfield Fieldwork Award

This award has been established by the Department of Anthropology in memory of John A. Price and Joan Rayfield. This annual award will be given to one MA and one PhD student in the Graduate Program in Social Anthropology on the basis of merit on their field research proposal.

MA $1,000; PhD $1,000

Application Process

MA:

Following review and approval of their research proposal, MA students may submit the research proposal to the GPA for inclusion in the annual competition by April 30th.

PhD:

Following the proposal examination defense, PhD students may submit the research proposal to the GPA for inclusion in the annual competition by May 31st. Note, PhD students who are in the field may also submit their research proposals for consideration although preference will be given to applicants who are pre-fieldwork.
